Combustion induced Toxic injuries (CITI) - 25 April 2013 - London

Course aimed at:
Ambulance service paramedics/ HART teams involved in prehospital emergency care, A&E staff, ITU and ward staff who may be involved with the diagnosis, care and treatment of CITI

Course goals: To enable course participants to:
1. Understand the pathophsiology of CO, CN and smoke inhalation injuries
2. Carry out basic rapid neurological assessment for suspected CO poisoning
3. To recognise the signs and symptoms of CITI
4. Understand hospital treatment protocols & testing
6. Understand the referral criteria and protocols for HBO
7. Understand and be familiar with the CN antidotes available
8. Understand how toxic gases are produced from combustion

Edinburgh Case-based Update in Severe Poisoning
A case-based update for clinicians who treat poisoned patients
* New programme for 2013 *

6 September 2013, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
This one day update will use cases and an interactive voting system to discuss severe poisoning. Teaching will be based on National Poisons Information Service consultant’s clinical practice in Edinburgh’s toxicology ward and on referrals taken from clinicians across the UK.

Connecting with People: Emotional Resilience and Suicide Awareness training

The training comprises a series of peer reviewed and independently evaluated 2 hour modules, ideally suited to CPD and in-house training sessions.

Participants will be able to develop a compassionate approach suitable for a demanding and time-pressured environment.

At the end of the modules participants will be able to use the clinical resources to enhance their assessment and response to a suicidal patient. They will be able to undertake a safe triage and referral if appropriate, reduce their patients’ distress, and collaboratively create a safety plan to increase their patients’ resilience to suicidal thoughts

Trauma Resus Education and Training Sessions (TREATS)

The course focuses on the concept of Damage Control Resuscitation, new equipment and roles and responsibilities at a trauma call. Emphasis is not only on clinical components, but also human factors that impact on trauma care. The course is delivered by ED consultants/senior nursing staff/reps/outside speakers. The course consists of some lectures, but mainly small group workshops and high fidelity moulages.
