UK Training in Emergency Airway Management (TEAM) Course

The UK TEAM Course has been jointly developed and is jointly owned by the College of Emergency Medicine and the Royal College of Anaesthetists. It is a two day course designed to teach the basic foundations of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to manage the airway safely in an emergency. The course serves as an introduction to emergency airway skills, including rapid sequence induction of anaesthesia and tracheal intubation, but competence in these skills requires further, and ongoing, training.
It is expected that candidates attending this course will have had at least six to twelve months experience in anaesthesia and/or intensive care. Candidates are also expected to have a range of knowledge and skills relevant to emergency airway care, such as arterial blood gas analysis and chest X-ray interpretation. UK TEAM is highly relevant for emergency physicians in training, and is very highly rated by course candidates.

TEAM Course dates for 2011/12 are as follows:

  • Wednesday 9th – Thursday 10th  May 2012 -Birmingham
  • Thursday 30th June 2012 – Friday 1st July 2012 - Bath

iTEAM, Torbay, 23 April 2012

23 April 2012

Horizon Centre, Torbay District General Hospital

This one day course is aimed at all levels of emergency practitioners involved in the management of patients with actual or potential airway compromise, without recent substantive training in airway management. iTEAM intends to bridge this gap and provide training to give the appropriate skills and knowledge.

Course objectives:

  • To teach and practice the decision making process for assessment and management of patients with airway compromise, with specific emphasis on predicting those at risk of airway compromise.
  • To instruct techniques of basic and advanced airway management without rapid sequence induction and intubation to assist in maintenance of a patent airway for at least 15 minutes until skilled help arrives.
  • To review the techniques of securing a definitive airway to enable useful assistance and critique of appropriately skilled practitioners in achieving this.
